What is Phosphatidylserine?

Phosphatidylserine or also known abbreviated as Ptd-L-Ser or PS is the major acidic phospholipid class. It accounts for 13-15% of phospholipids in our cerebral cortex. In the plasma membrane, PS is localized in the cytoplasmic leaflet where it forms part of the protein docking sites that are for activation of many key signal pathways. The pathways it stimulates help with neuronal survival, neurite growth, and synaptogenesis. These are all important parts of maintaining and prolonging the life of neurons and potentially increase the growth of existing neurons.
