What Is Noopept?
Noopept is widely used in Europe and is legally prescribed in Russia for it’s nootropic and neuroprotective properties. It’s popularity is continuing to grow at a considerable rate due to a growing amount of reports suggesting that it is an effective cognitive enhancer with little side-effects. It is often mistaken for being part of the racetam family, due to it’s similarity of effects to those in the racetam family, especially Piracetam. Noopept is said to be 1000 times more potent than Piracetam. Noopept is made for human consumption, however adequate measures should be taken when experimental research takes place.
Noopept Chemical Properties
Chemical Formula: C17H22N2O4
Molar Mass: 318.367 g/mol
Noopept is a synthetic peptide. Noopept contains a phenylacetyl subunit bound to a small peptide chain of glycine and proline. You will find the glycine amino acid bound to the proline with a peptide bond. While the proline amino acid is made up of a carboxylic acid group bound to a pyrrolidine ring at C2. Noopept has been found to be structurally similar to an endogenous neuropeptide cycloprolylglycine. Due to Noopept lacking a pyrrolidone cycle it is not considered a racetam.
Although little research has been done on Noopept, there does seem to be some consistency regarding the effects of the research chemical.
The following are some potential effects of Noopept, due to the lack of research that has been done on Noopept this is far from an exhaustive list:
- Improved focus
- Improved visual acuity
- Increased thought processing
- Memory enhancement
- Colour enhancement
What Are The Potential Side-Effects of Noopept?
It is important to take caution when experimenting with Noopept due to the lack of research that has been shared on the chemical and its effect on humans.
The following is by no means an exhaustive list of the potential side-effects of Noopept but will give an idea of the potential side-effects that may be experienced when research is conducted with the chemical.
Some of the known side-effects of Noopept include:
- Irritability: due to the nature of the research chemical and its effects, it can make those with a temperament to become easily irritable more so.
- Anxiety: this side-effect often surfaces when a person has consumed more than the recommended amount.
- Headaches: similar to the above side-effect, dosage is usually the trigger for headaches arising from Noopept.
Tolerance to Noopept’s effects happens over several weeks of repeated use. It will take roughly 3-7 days for tolerance to reach half and 1-2 weeks to hit baseline. Noopept has cross tolerance with other similar nootropics, therefore consuming it will reduce the effect of all other nootropics of the same variety (i.e Piracetam).
